Section 15
Louth County Council has introduced a Rates Waiver scheme for 2026; the scheme is to assist and provide incentives for new businesses to locate in vacant commercial premises in town centres encouraging diversity of retail opportunities within designated areas.
Qualifying Criteria:
- The applicant must be the owner or lessee of the subject premises.
- The application must be accompanied by a lease agreement, of a minimum of four years’ duration, or a copy of the Land Registry entry showing ownership details.
- Applicants must not owe monies to Louth County Council for example, commercial rates/levies/fees.
- Property must be vacant for at least 12 months, and proof of vacancy provided, for example a declaration letter from the landlord.

As a condition of acceptance into the scheme, the applicant is required to set up a standing order or direct debit for the payment of commercial rates prior to the end of year 1, and any other charges payable to the Council.
